Dresdner Straße 15–17 / Höchstädtplatz 3
1200 Vienna (AT)
The building complex of the newspaper, printing and publishing house Globus, built in the 1950s by the team of architects Karl Eder, Wilhelm Schütte, Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky and Fritz Weber, was used for other purposes from 1989 with the demise of Globus Verlag: the industrial hall for the printing plant on Dresdner Strasse as a branch of a hardware store, the eight-storey administration building on Höchstädtplatz for rented office space. Since 2018 the administration building and the 4-storey personnel wing in the Meldemannstraße of the architect Schütte-Lihotzky have been listed.
The 2016 study proposes a new utilisation concept for the industrial hall and the three-storey former newspaper press building in the northwest of the building complex. Through adaptation and redensification, a mixture of commercial and gastronomy areas, apartments and open spaces will be achieved. In the approx. 5,000 m² large hall, the following uses will be accommodated by moving in several levels: on the ground floor a grocery store with restaurant, above a parking floor with 121 parking spaces, above self-storage areas. On the roof of the hall, three three-storey, linear wooden buildings will be arranged, which contain student living with 120 units as well as assisted living with 95 units on a total area of 7,000 m². The open spaces in between will be greened. The eight-storey former administration building accommodates 105 student apartments on 2,700 m².
